The day was filled with so many cooking activities that unleashed their hidden culinary talents. The 14 contenders started working as early as 10am while their celebrity chef mentors guided them as they go through each process.
These contenders are so lucky to be taught by the country’s respected chefs Amazing, amazing experience indeed for them — and to us bloggers too!
Chef Rosebud taught them how to cook in a wok and how to bake a dish so at the end of Day 2, the 14 contenders were challenged to come up with 2 dishes: one cooked in wok, and one baked using what was available in the fridge. It was challenging and fun because the ingredients were limited so they need to be very creative to come up with good dishes that will please the chef mentors.
According to the celebrity chefs, the plating has dramatically improved — meaning that the contenders are really learning from them. They were reminded though that the comments from the mentors should be taken constructively, because after all, they were in the contest because they were willing to learn and improve their craft.
This year’s Electrolux Wok-A-Holic Kitchen Star Boot Camp kicked off yesterday at Waltermart Monuz with a series of activities, the contestants, bloggers and the audience enjoyed.
The event started by introducing the three celebrity chef mentors, Chef Bruce Lim (the Headmaster of the Boot Camp), Chef Rosebud Benitez and Chef Jonathan Bautista of CCA.
We also met the 14 aspiring chefs who went through a very rigorous selection process. We applaud them for going this far! They were not just passionate about cooking, they were also up to the challenge that they will be learning more culinary tips and tricks from the celebrity chefs.

Day 1 was simply an immersion on how it’s going to be in the coming weeks. The celebrity chefs showed off and shared basic and advanced culinary techniques to the contenders, from identification of vegetables, various ways of cutting, sautee-ing techniques, and chicken de-boning among others.
The cool thing about this event is that, everyone, including the audience learned a lot of things from the celebrity chefs!
